Overview of the Case

In the retail industry, understanding customer behavior is critical for success. A certain retail store owner faced a challenge: they were unable to derive meaningful insights from their sales data due to limitations of their Point-of-Sale (POS) system.

The store had a Point of Sale and an ERP system. However, the POS system was not equipped to provide in-depth analytics for key business drivers. Moreover, data consolidation was manually done by inputting information from the POS system and various spreadsheets, leading to frequent errors. Refunds were another pain point, as data could not be updated accordingly.

To tackle these issues, we created a robust database that integrated data from the POS system, customer satisfaction surveys, and Google Ads database. The next step was to replace the manual Excel Dashboards with Power BI Reports, offering a more dynamic and detailed view of the business operations.

 

This new approach allowed the owner and senior management to analyze buying behavior across different customer types – first-time customers, repeat buyers, and loyal patrons. They could now associate spending patterns with customer satisfaction scores, providing valuable insights into consumer preferences and trends.

Moreover, the integration of Google Ads data offered an opportunity to measure the effectiveness of their advertising efforts. They could now directly correlate ad spend, response rates, and new customer traffic, leading to more informed marketing decisions.

The transformation was a testament to the power of data analytics in driving business growth. By leveraging technology, the retail store owner was able to gain a deeper understanding of their business dynamics, ultimately improving decision-making and boosting profitability.
